Tier 2 and Tier 3 DAY COURSES FOR CLINICIANS IN THE EAST OF ENGLAND

Please note:

There is no need for Educators to attend two courses, you should only attend a course relevant to your current role and experience. Educational Supervisors should only attend Tier 3 training. If you have got relevant experience and are about to start your role as Educational Supervisor you do not need to attend Tier 2 training, there is no need to complete each Tier; educators start as the most appropriate tier for you.

As part of approval and re-approval educators, are required to complete three components:

Tier 2: Clinical Supervision:

Study Days

7th – 18th June 2021, 1st -12th Nov 2021

  • Clinical Supervision in practice, reflective workshop on participants experiences of clinical supervision
  • Experiential & reflective learning
  • Learning conversations with trainees
  • Designing and planning teaching sessions

This study day is designed for those involved in clinical supervision to medical students, and / or designated trainees. Over the course of the day you will be introduced to best practice for planning and facilitating teaching and learning sessions including the principles of adult learning theory, as well as the basic principles of effective feedback and developing reflective practice. All sessions will be based on active learning principles, encouraging interactive group work.

Tier 3: Educational Supervision:

14th – 25th June 2021, 8th – 19th Nov (option: 29th Nov – 10th Dec) 2021

Topics covered:

  • Educational Supervision in practice, reflective workshop on participants experiences of supervision
  • Teaching and Assessment
  • Scoping the learning needs and providing safe learning for trainees
  • Dealing with trainees in difficult situations and having honest conversations

This study day is designed for those involved in educational supervision of medical students, and / or designated trainees. Over the course of the day you will introduced to the key educational theories and their relevance to your context, strategies for educational and pastoral support, and the basic principles of effective assessment. The day will involve using simulated scenarios to allow participants to explore issues related to dealing with trainees in difficult situations, managing team issues, human factors and safety culture. All sessions will be based on active learning principles, encouraging interactive group work.

Postgraduate programmes in education:

For those who wish to progress further in their educational career, we provide a choice of postgraduate programmes which have been developed to meet the needs of different health professionals and support shared, inter-professional learning. We offer maximum flexibility and choice for busy health professionals. The content is delivered through a combination of classroom-based sessions, e-learning and work-based learning. We utilise simulation in our teaching and have a very well-equipped clinical simulation centre.

Post Graduate Certificate in Health and Medical Education

12- 18-month Course (8 study days)

The Post Graduate Certificate in Health and Medical Education provides rich, inter- professional opportunities for the study and exploration of key aspects of educational theory and practice. It also gives participants the ability to enhance and develop teaching skills as well as clinical supervision and/or evidence-based practice in their healthcare context. Through a series of study days encouraging group discussion and active learning, participants will develop an appreciation of all the elements that contribute to successful teaching and learning within a healthcare context. The course is aligned to the UK Professional Standards Framework for Higher Education allowing you to apply for Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy.

MSc in Health and Medical Education

2-5 years course (180 Credits level 7)

Those who complete our Post Graduate Certificate carry forward their credits and progress towards our MSc in Health and Medical Education.
