- The role and responsibilities of the Educational Supervisor
- Overview of educational theories
- How adults learn, including an introduction to learning styles
- Assessment for learning
- Learners needs/safety
- Principles and practice of how to provide learner feedback
This virtual course is designed for those involved in educational supervision of medical students, and / or designated trainees. During the course you will be introduced to the key educational theories and their relevance to your context, strategies for educational and pastoral support, and the basic principles of effective assessment and feedback as well as safety culture. All live sessions will be based on active learning principles, encouraging interactive group work.
The course will consist of three live webinars, pre-recorded sessions, quizzes and forum discussion. Total course content over the fortnight is equivalent to one day of training.
Postgraduate programmes in education:
For those who wish to progress further in their educational career, we provide a choice of postgraduate programmes which have been developed to meet the needs of different health professionals and support shared, inter-professional learning. We offer maximum flexibility and choice for busy health professionals. The content is delivered through a combination of classroom-based sessions, e-learning and work-based learning. We utilise simulation in our teaching and have a very well-equipped clinical simulation centre.

Post Graduate Certificate in Health and Medical Education
12- 18-month Course (8 study days)
The Post Graduate Certificate in Health and Medical Education provides rich, inter- professional opportunities for the study and exploration of key aspects of educational theory and practice. It also gives participants the ability to enhance and develop teaching skills as well as clinical supervision and/or evidence-based practice in their healthcare context. Through a series of study days encouraging group discussion and active learning, participants will develop an appreciation of all the elements that contribute to successful teaching and learning within a healthcare context. The course is aligned to the UK Professional Standards Framework for Higher Education allowing you to apply for Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy.

MSc in Health and Medical Education
2-5 years course (180 Credits level 7)
Those who complete our Post Graduate Certificate carry forward their credits and progress towards our MSc in Health and Medical Education. The programme has been popular amongst a range of healthcare professionals including physicians, surgeons, anaesthetists, paediatricians, psychiatrists, nurses, midwives, critical care outreach nurses, resuscitation officers, physiotherapists, paramedics, and pharmacists.
